Ministries and Congregational Care Team

Congregational Care

MCC of Charleston’s congregational care team adds to the compassion and vibrancy of our church community. This ministry extends pastoral care to those in need through care cards, home/hospital visits and prayer.

Specifically, the team is available for:
• Visitation in hospitals, nursing facilities and homes
• Listening: Providing an open, non judgmental and confidential ear to hear your stories
• Communion and prayer
• Anointing the sick
• Sending care cards to those in need, or to celebrate life occasions
• Friendly phone calls

Confidentiality and discretion are cornerstones of our ministry. It's absolutely essential for building safe, healing and caring relationships. What is said to a care team member is kept in strictest confidence. New healthcare regulations (HIPPA) provide safeguards for this information. Information will only be shared at the request of the care receiver.

Ministries at MCC Charleston

The Altar Guild Ministry

The Altar Guild Ministry maintains our altar in the Sanctuary.  Before each service the altar is prepared by team members.  The altar and prayer table candles are lit at the start of each service and extinguished after services.  Members coordinate with the pastor and the Worship Committee to arrange for any special altar dressings or worship service procedures.

Members who participate during services should dress appropriately in order to project a better impression of the ministry and the church.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this
email.

Attendance / Outreach

The Attendance/Outreach Ministry communicates concern for others and makes everyone feel welcome.  Ministry members greet visitors and contact those who do not or are not able to attend to let them know that they have been missed. The ministry also coordinates with the Prayer Partners Ministry to make known needs that may be shared.

Members who meet and greet before, during, and after services should dress appropriately in order to project a better impression of the ministry and the church for members, friends, and guests.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this
email.

The Audio Visual Ministry

The Audio/Visual Ministry prepares and operates the sound system, computer, and video projector before, during, and after services.  All or part of services may be recorded for special purposes or for the library.  Ministry members coordinate with the pastor and other ministries for special audio or visual considerations.

Members who operate the audio and video equipment should dress appropriately as they would project a better impression of the ministry and the church for members, friends, and guests.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this

The Choir

The Choir communicates the message and presence of God through music in the worship services.  Members may also perform solo during a "Special Music" portion of a service.  The choir also coordinates with the pastor and other ministries to arrange for any special considerations.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this

The Cookie Ministry

The Cookie Ministry prepares refreshments before worship services.  Members take turns making or acquiring cookies, donuts, or similar snacks.  This is an opportunity especially for those who love to bake and show off some culinary skills.  The snacks are brought in and set up on the table in the Fellowship Room.  If not already done a pot of coffee should also be made.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should sign up for it on the sheet on the table in the Fellowship Room.  For more information please contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this
email.

The Food Bank Ministry

The Food Bank Ministry provides food on an emergency basis to those in need and strives to become known in the community for its deeds.  Members maintain the food pantry, pack bags for needy families and coordinate with Lutheran Social Services.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this

HIV/AIDS Ministry

The goal of the HIV/AIDS Ministry is to enhance the social and spiritual life of the individuals infected with HIV/AIDS, to help them recognize their own self-value and realize that God has not forsaken them.  Members provide social, emotional and spiritual support to people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones.  The ministry also promotes HIV/AIDS awareness, works with Low-country AIDS Services, provides a safe place where those living with HIV/AIDS can share their stories, and encourages them to become peer examples teaching others that this disease does not define one's self-worth, but that all are loved children of God.  The ministry coordinates with the pastor and other ministries for any special considerations.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this
email.

Hospitality

The Hospitality Ministry provides fellowship opportunities for members and guests.  Team members plan and prepare social events such as potlucks, dinners, and dances.  The ministry also coordinates with the pastor, special committees and other ministries to plan for future events or to arrange for any special considerations so that the atmosphere for fellowship at any event will be most rewarding.

Those who would like to take part in this ministry should contact the ministry chairperson or the church office at 760-6114 or via this email.  Assistance with event planning, execution and cleanup is always welcomed and encouraged.
